Bluegrass duo has a fresh sound

Dailey & VincentIt’s refreshing when you hear bluegrass harmonies that blow you away. I just latched onto the self-titled CD from Dailey & Vincent on Rounder Records. It’s pure sonic splendor!

Like the great bluegrass harmony duos, Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent have voices meant to blend. Jamie Dailey seems to have learned and excelled as lead singer with Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, a band known for its stellar harmonies. Dailey’s voice is so pure and seems to have limitless range. Together with Vincent (a former member of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, and, yes, Rhonda Vincent’s brother), their harmonies will give you goosebumps.

I get chills when I hear their remake of the Statler Brothers’ “More Than A Name on a Wall,” about the Vietnam War Memorial, or even “By the Mark” (Gillian Welch & David Rawlings), with its rootsy gospel mix. You can hear a bit of that tune in the video below. Add in some blazing fast instrumental work, and fast-paced bluesy tunes. Mix well.

I found this rather moving tribute on YouTube
for “More Than A Name on a Wall:

Here’s a behind the scenes look at Dailey & Vincent at the Grand Ole Opry:
