Leslie Lee and Steve Gretz, who once ran the popular Mozaic Room Coffeehouse at the Avon Baptist Church, return to the church on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 for a benefit concert of folk and gospel music. With the recent release of their CD “Whole Other World,” the husband-wife team will be donating the proceeds of the show to All Hands In, a non-profit organization focusing on human trafficking in Massachusetts.

Leslie and Steve’s music is an amalgam of cover songs and originals, with tightly blended harmonies. Joining them will be their “very fine band” including Seth Connelly (guitar, mandolin), Hatrack Gallagher (harmonica), Peter Tillotson (bass, Sousaphone) and Don Croad on drums.

I’ve known the Gretzes for many years. Their style of music blossoms in the folk tradition. On stage, they often will explain the meaning of the songs that they perform, and why they chose to sing them. Their endearing style has Leslie on lead or harmony vocals, while Steve plays guitar. The duo has built a following that appreciates their down-home style, which often gets the audience singing along.

Having performed together since 2003, they have released four CDs. They’ve been featured on radio’s “Bound For Glory” live folk broadcast twice. One of their original songs was chosen for a national promotional campaign for the “One Great Hour of Sharing” charity — and another has been featured on NPR’s “Car Talk.”

Steve Gretz served as pastor of the Avon Baptist Church for 11 years, where he ran the Mozaic Room Coffeehouse, before he and Leslie moved to Rochester, N.Y. in 2007. Gretz works as a pastor in Rochester and has been producing concerts in that area since moving there. Lee is a full time graphic designer who has produced many CD covers and other projects.

Tickets may be purchased at the church office for $12 in advance; $15 at the door. Call 508-583-8076 for more information.
